HUSH

A site specific installation first staged in 2004 at Farmiloes Buildings in Clerkenwell, London following an open commission from the London Art and Design fair.  A second larger installation followed in 2006 at the Albion Stables in Kings Cross.  Elements of the show were also exhibited at the Royal Ear Hospital and Mary Ward House.

This early installation was an attempt to articulate the fragility of human wellbeing. It began an investigation into the process of ageing and the relationship between growth and decay that still informs much of my work today.

The video above is a record of the first show at Farmiloes Buildings.

The images that follow are a mixture of photographs from the two shows. Small silent motors were built into each of the sleeping figures enabeling them to breathe. The gentle rise and fall of their chests was accompanied by soundscape of breathing syncronised to the subtle movement of the sculptures.
