Crypt Swimming

This project began as a film installation for a show in the Crypt of St. Pancras Church in London. Half the crypt is disused and sealed off from the public. For the show a small portal was cut into the barrier that divides the two halves and visitors were able to peer through. The film was projected on the other side with the scale and perspective of the image carefully lined up to match that of the crypt’s architecture. The swimmer in the film is Robin Hunter who very kindly allowed me to film him in the Serpentine. It was early in the year and freezing cold so he could only do one take. Thankfully as you can see he did a brilliant job!

A couple of years later I found a less site specific way of showing the film. It now plays in the body of a charcoal clock case. One of a series clock/video pieces I’ve been working on.
